Police say suspected shoplifter shot officers with chemical spray

A 24-year-old Winona woman faces an aggravated robbery charge after allegedly spraying loss prevention officers at JCPenney at Apache Mall with a chemical spray after they tried to stop her for shoplifting.

The Rochester Police Department said an officer who was in the area got a call at 4:30 p.m. Friday about a fight in front of the store. The officer found the store's security officials wrestling with the woman. The officers were able to subdue her, but not before they were sprayed.

Police said the woman was found to be wearing several layers of clothing and also had several thousand dollars in cash on her.
