A combination of rain and snowmelt Saturday, followed by freezing rain and snow Sunday could cause hazardous conditions this weekend in portions of southeastern Minnesota, according to the National Weather Service in La Crosse .
Due to frozen ground, snow that is melted by the Saturday's rain might create ponds of water on roadways and localized flooding in Dodge, Olmsted, Wabasha and Winona counties.
More moisture, including sleet and freezing rain, is expected overnight as a weather system moves into the area beginning around midnight. Some rumbles of thunder might even be heard south of I-90. Dense fog is also possible
On Sunday, rain turns to snow as a second weather system out of the northwest brings cold temperatures. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch from Sunday evening through Monday. Four to 8 inches of new snow are expected during that time.
