Snow in April

The National Weather Service says the Rochester area is likely to get more snow mixed with rain through the week, particularly on Friday.

Snow fell throughout Tuesday in Rochester. An an accumulation of 4 to 9 inches was expected, depending on the temperature.

The heaviest snow fell in Fillmore and Houston counties,which got 4 to 6 inches. Schools there closed early.

Traffic mishaps were few during the day. Sheriff's dispatchers in Fillmore, Houston, Mower and Olmsted counties reported mainly just vehicles sliding into ditches.

South of Spring Valley, a car driven by Lloyd Faulkner, 63, of Waterloo, Iowa, slid across U.S. 63 into a pickup driven by William Foster, 74, of LeRoy. Both suffered minor injuries, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report, which also stated that both men had their seat belts fastened.

Here's the forecast for the rest of the week in the Rochester area:

Wednesday: Snow likely, mixing with rain after 11 a.m., then gradually ending. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday night: A chance of rain before 3 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow. Chance of precipitation is 40%

Friday: Rain and snow likely, becoming all rain after 8 a.m. High near 46. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Friday Night:A chance of rain before 5 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a low around 36. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Saturday:A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49.
