Red Cross fundraiser planned for March 16 in Austin

AUSTIN — The 10th annual Evening in Red will be 6 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Austin Country Club. The gathering is the signature fundraising event for the Mower-Freeborn chapter of the American Red Cross.

The event brings together supporters for a night that includes dinner, a silent auction and a live auction. All proceeds will be used to benefit the disaster relief and readiness efforts in Mower and Freeborn counties, according to a American Red Cross press release.

"Half of our house was gone after the chimney caught on fire in the middle of the night," said a local, unnamed, family about the benefits of the local chapter. "Red Cross volunteers were right there, and they just blew me away. They came back the next day and helped us with some food, clothing and replacement medication, which is crucial after my triple bypass a few years ago."
