Researchers will explore efficacy of 'quit lines'

ClearWay Minnesota has announced a $726,727, three-year grant to Mayo Clinic researchers to study whether "phone quit lines can be an effective tool for helping hospitalized cigarette smokers quit."

The principal investigator is Dr. David Warner.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says "the adverse health effects from cigarette smoking account for an estimated 443,000 deaths, or nearly one of every five deaths, each year in the United States."
