Reward offered for vandals who tagged refuge signs

WINONA — A $500 reward is being offered for any information leading to the conviction of whoever is responsible for the vandalism of signs and other structures at the Verchota Landing on the north side of Winona.

The landing is on the Prairie Island Dike near the Minnesota City Boat Club. Signs and a metal staircase were "tagged" with orange spray paint during the evening of Monday or early morning Tuesday. The signs defaced by vandals are valued at $1,000.

The Verchota Landing and associated public use facilities are owned and maintained as part of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. The reward is being offered by the Friends of the Refuge Headwaters.

Anyone with information regarding this vandalism should contact Federal Wildlife Officer Rob Hirschboeck at 608-769-7174. All information will be kept confidential.
