Rochester High School hires John Drews to coach football in 1960

1985 — 25 years ago

An $864,000 construction contract has been awarded to Rochester Sand and Gravel to widen and resurface 37th Street Northwest from the Zumbro River, west 0.8 of a mile.

Kmart has trout fishing specials including a rooster tail spinner for $1.27 or a 6-inch fillet knife with sheath for $4.97.

1960 — 50 years ago

A family man with a Wisconsin high school, university and semi-pro grid background will coach the Rochester John Marshall football team starting next fall. John Drews was named coach succeeding Lauren Hagge.

Rochester’s new recreation program for senior citizens will be launched in the North Hall of the Mayo Civic Auditorium. The recreation programs for people older than 60 include a craft project.

The St. Francis Rosary Society had a monthly meeting and party at the Rochester State Hospital. Games were played and prizes awarded to the hospital patients.

1935 — 75 years ago

Results of the annual election of officers of classes, clubs and representative leaders of Rochester High School Community League were announced. President of the 1935 senior class will be William Devney, and Leona Hopkins will serve as president of the community league council. Roberta Rice is the class valedictorian, and Gertrude Sanford the salutatorian.
