Rochester man accused of sexual assault

A Rochester man failed to show up Monday to face sexual assault charges in Olmsted County District Court.

Fredrick Daniel Hamilton, 21, is accused of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under the age of 13.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim first shared details of the Jan. 21, 2012, sexual assault, which occurred at her grandmother's house in Rochester, with someone on July 31, 2014.

Authorities had responded to a Rochester residence in 2012 to find Hamilton and the victim's father engaged in a verbal dispute. After being separated, the father told authorities that his daughter had informed him that Hamilton touched her, according to the complaint.

The victim did not disclose any sexual abuse during the ensuing interview with authorities, but she did disclose the alleged assault in a second interview conducted Aug. 12, 2014, the complaint says.

Hamilton told authorities that he "never touched the victim in a sexual way and does not know why she would bring it up after all these years," according to the complaint.

If convicted of the felony charge, Hamilton faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $35,000 fine. His failure to appear at Monday's hearing may lead to additional charges.
