Rochester man arrested after crashing stolen car

A 19-year-old Rochester resident was arrested late Monday for allegedly stealing a car downtown, leading police on a high-speed chase down East Center Street and crashing the vehicle into a tree after missing a curve near the Federal Medical Center.

Rochester police said they received a call at 10:10 p.m that a car left idling had been stolen. An officer saw the vehicle on North Broadway and began to follow it. The driver of the stolen vehicle turned onto East Center and when police tried to stop it, the driver sped off.

Police discontinued the chase but the driver ended up smashing into a tree. He was arrested for driving while impaired, theft and fleeing a police officer.
