Rochester man arrested after fighting with police

A 29-year-old Rochester man is in custody today after he allegedly fought with police and was in possession of a handgun.

The incident began about 3 a.m. Saturday, when a patrol sergeant saw the man, who he knew was wanted on an apprehension order for a probation violation.

The officer also knew the suspect had a history of violence, so called for assistance, said Capt. John Sherwin. They followed the man into the Holiday Store in the 400 block of Fourth Street Southeast and confronted him, the report says.

The 29-year-old allegedly resisted arrest, fought with the officers and was eventually officers used a Taser on him. A subsequent search of the man turned up a semi-automatic handgun, Sherwin said.

The Post-Bulletin typically doesn't identify suspects until they've been charged.
