A Rochester woman was killed Friday after the SUV she was riding in was struck at the intersection of 55th Street Northwest and Bandel Road.

Rochester Police were called to the intersection just before 4:15 p.m. Friday for a report of a two-vehicle crash, Rochester Police Capt. John Sherwin said.

A 2008 GMC Envoy was westbound on 55th Street Northwest, traveling through the intersection on a green light, when a 2007 Buick Lucerne failed to yield while turning northbound onto Bandel Road from eastbound 55th Street on a yellow flashing arrow, according to Sherwin.

The Buick, driven by Alan Strand, 67, of Welch, struck the GMC.

The driver of the GMC, Marcelle Goodman, 56, of Oronoco, was not injured but three passengers were, including one fatally. The front seat passenger, Avis Skjeie, 82, Rochester, was transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital — Saint Marys via Gold Cross Ambulance where she was pronounced dead.

The incident remains under investigation by the Rochester Police Department’s Forensic Mapping Unit. No charges had been filed as of this morning.
