Runaway cat from Pine Island found in Mower County

In November, a yellow cat went missing from her Pine Island home, north of Rochester.

Apparently, the cat appeared in winter roughly 30 miles south in the area of Waltham, a small town in northern Mower County, according to a 20-year-old woman who has been feeding stray cats there, Sheriff Terese Amazi said.

Problems with cats in the Waltham area led the 20-year-old on Sunday to call a deputy, who, upon arrival, saw the yellow cat with a collar around its neck and tags for a veterinary clinic in Pine Island, Amazi said.

With the clinic's help, the deputy got connected with the cat's owner, 47-year-old Beth Kohner.

On Tuesday, the deputy and Kohner met at the county line to reunite Kohner with her cat.
