Rural Hayfield home complete loss after fire

HAYFIELD — A fire in rural Hayfield destroyed a house while the residents were away on vacation early Wednesday morning.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. the Dodge County Sheriff's Office received multiple reports of a house fire. Deputies responded and found the residence to be completely engulfed in flames. After a thorough search, officials didn't find anyone in the property.

The Hayfield Fire Department arrived on scene, and requested the Kasson Fire Department for additional assistance to combat the fire. The Hayfield Ambulance Service was also on scene as a precaution.

Firefighters were on scene until 6 a.m. to extinguish the flames. Home owners were located up north while on a trip. There were no reported injuries during the incident and the residence was considered a total loss.

The State Fire Marshall was on scene Wednesday to investigate and determine the cause. The case remains under investigation.
