An apartment in Southeast Rochester was damaged by fire this morning.
The Rochester Fire Department said it got a call at 6:59 a.m. about a fire at Boulder Apartments, 4494 Stoneview Place SE. When crews arrived, they found the automatic sprinkler had been activated and water was running under the door. They also smelled smoke.
When no one answered the door, they broke down the door and searched the apartment. No one was home but a young cat was rescued.
The cause was a small fire that had broken out in a corner of the living room and started to go up the wall, then into the ceiling. Sprinklers had suppressed the fire.
Water damage was extensive in that apartment and those below on the second and first floor. Damage was estimated at $20,000. The cause is under investigation.

Apartments representatives acted very quickly in the interests of their tenants as well by calling in a commercial salvage crew that arrived before firefighters left, the department said.
