LA CRESCENT — Interstate 90 traffic on the westbound bridge over U.S. 61 north of La Crescent was narrowed to one lane today after an accident Sunday damaged some bridge railings on that stretch.
Short portable concrete walls were put up to close the right lane; the left lane remains open.
The accident was reported at 6:12 p.m. Sunday. The State Patrol said Brian Hiller, 51, of Windsor, Ontario, was driving his semi west on the interstate when he lost control. The truck overturned and spilled its load. It came to rest on both lanes, forcing the closure.
Hiller was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse, Wis. A condition report on Hiller was not available late this morning.
In another accident over the weekend, John Shoop, 65, of Mason City, Iowa, was hospitalized after he lost control of his motorcycle on loose gravel and it tipped over. He was taken to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, the patrol said. He is in good condition today, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
