Semi drives off I-90 onto County Road 1

Semi accident just south of Simpson
The driver of a semi that was transporting frozen chicken and shrimp alfredo was seriously injured when his truck left Interstate 90, slid down an embankment and came to rest on Olmsted County Road 1 just south of Simpson on Thursday.

SIMPSON — A 52-year-old semi driver was seriously injured after he drove off of Interstate 90 and onto County Road 1 Thursday afternoon.

The driver was headed eastbound on I-90 when his vehicle left the road, just before the overpass, and landed on County Road 1 around 2:08 p.m., according to Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Troy Christianson. 

The semi completely blocked County Road 1, near County Road 16. 

The driver was extricated from the vehicle by Stewartville first responders and was transported by a North Memorial Aircare helicopter to Mayo Clinic Hospital-St. Marys. The driver's injuries were non-life threatening, accord to the Minnesota State Patrol. 

Stewartville Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office were also on scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
