Sewer, water rates bump up 5 percent in Eyota

EYOTA — The Eyota City Council approved a rate increase for sewer and water usage Thursday night, according to City Clerk Marlis Knowlton.

The rates for water and sanitary sewer increased 5 percent both for the base rates and usage rates. The sewer base rate was increased to $12.40, with the volume going to $6.10 per 1,000 gallons. The water rates increased to $5.55 and $3.55 per 1,000 gallons, Knowlton said.

The council rejected a request to install a drug drop-off box at City Hall. While council members agreed the idea had merit, the cost of law enforcement contract time made the project prohibitive, Knowlton said.

The council tabled a discussion on creating an ordinance and fee schedule for public outdoor dances until the next meeting.
