Sheriff warns about magazine peddlers in 1961

Mantorville Theate's fourth production of the season, "Egad, What a Chad!" or "Virtue Triumphs Over Villainy," will open. Cast members include Dana Schrantz of Pine Island, Norm Holden of Rochester and Elliott Riggot of West Concord.

1961 — 50 years ago

Olmsted County Sheriff Gerald Cunningham warned residents to be cautious when dealing with strangers claiming to be magazine salesmen. The sheriff said a group of men from Alabama are working the county without proper credentials.

The Rochester School Board has approved pay raises for the district's 33 custodians. The $5 monthly raise brings their pay to $380 per month.

1936 — 75 years ago

Florence Friedell Hiller, an outstanding Minneapolis violinist who, with Harold Cooke, played in an orchestra organized by the violinist’s father, William Friedell, will be the guest soloist at a concert that Cooke will direct at Mayo Park.

Four Rochester boys will attend the American Legion School Patrol Camp at Ten Lake, near Bemidji. They are Robert S. Stephen, John Wildenborg, Kurt Zielske and Robert J. Berg.
