Shootings in N. Mpls. have residents concerned

MINNEAPOLIS — Violent crime in north Minneapolis is down this year, but recent shootings have residents concerned.

One boy was killed Wednesday in north Minneapolis, and another wounded. They were between 12 and 14 years old and were shot a day after a neighborhood prayer vigil was disrupted by gunfire, leaving one woman hospitalized.

Last Saturday, another boy was killed. Quantell Braxton, 14, was found dead in the street, shot in the head.

Police are investigating. Sgt. Stephen McCarty says authorities have increased patrols, but officials need the public's help. Anyone with information is asked to call the Tips Line at (612) 692-TIPS.

There have been 19 murders in the city this year, compared with 33 at this time last year.
