ST. CHARLES — A year after a fire that destroyed North Star Foods in St. Charles, the community will commemorate the event Saturday and thank the first responders and firefighters who spent 28 hours controlling the fire and evacuating the town.
The event will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the city hall parking lot and inside the community center. Pat Thesing and Brad Arndt, who owned North Star Foods, are co-sponsoring the event to show their appreciation.
St. Charles students are taking part in an essay contest; essays will be on display.
The company previously announced that because of economic conditions, it isn't able to rebuild.
