A 25-year-old Rochester man was arrested early today after allegedly smashing a door in a northeast Rochester business and stealing a cash register.
Rochester police said today that an officer was patrolling near East Circle Drive and 26th Street Northeast at 1:23 a.m. when he noticed a car without headlights on leaving from behind a strip mall.
The officer tried to make a stop but the driver sped off. The officer was finally able to make a stop near University Center Rochester. In the meanwhile, another officer checked the strip mall and found a business had been broken into and the cash register taken.
A register was found in the suspect's vehicle.
The man might also be the one involved in several other smash and grab burglaries in the past few weeks, police said, though he is being held only on the one charge.
