Temporary night time Highway 63 detour planned at Rochester Airport for April 18, 19

Those driving on U.S. Highway 63 near the Rochester International Airport will encounter a temporary detour during the night on Monday and Tuesday, that will take drivers up and down the on and off ramps at the Olmsted County 16 interchange, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

On Monday, construction crews are setting beams for the new bridge over Highway 63, so northbound traffic will be routed up and down the ramps from 8 p.m. to midnight in south Rochester. Flaggers at the top of the ramp will ensure that motorist traffic from the airport and Olmsted County Road 16 can center the highway or cross the current bridge.

For Tuesday, construction crews will be doing a similar project, however, southbound traffic will be routed up and down the ramps from 8 p.m. to midnight in south Rochester.

Normal traffic will resume each night once the six beams are set in place. If work finishes sooner than planned, then the highway will be opened at that time.

Olmsted County is reconstructing the bridge and interchange at the airport. The project began in 2015 and is expected to be completed by Aug. 26. The contractor is Minnow Construction of Harmony.
