Thief makes off with man's truck, tools

Rochester police are looking for a stolen truck — and the man who took it after a tussle with the owner Monday morning.

Officers were called shortly after 10 a.m. to the 500 block of Fourth Avenue Northwest, where the 60-year-old victim told them this:

He'd backed his truck up to the door of the shop, then put the keys in the center console, the report says, planning just a quick stop.

As he walked into the garage, he saw a man crossing the parking lot; when the victim stepped inside, he heard the truck door slam.

The man ran back outside to find the suspect in the driver's seat, said Capt. John Sherwin; the victim tried to pull him out of the vehicle, but the suspect slammed the door on him and drove away.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s, 5 feet 10 to 6 feet tall. He has a "dirty blond" mustache, the report says, and was wearing a dark stocking hat and a Carhartt-style coat.

The 2006 black pickup also contained several tools, Sherwin said, in addition to the victim's wallet and other personal items.

Anyone with information is asked to call Rochester Police at 328-6800.
