Rochester John Marshall senior Darrell Thompson announced that he would continue his football career at the University of Minnesota. Thompson has been one of the most highly recruited high school athletes in Rochester history.
U.S. Sen. Rudy Boschwitz faced many questions from students at Rochester Mayo High School during an hour-long appearance there.

Dr. James T. Priestley, head of a section of surgery in the Mayo Clinic and professor of surgery in the Mayo Foundation, was one of the recipients of a gold medal conferred upon outstanding figures in America medicine by the Golden Slippers Square Club of Philadelphia.

For the second consecutive day, February weather records have been shattered in the Rochester area. The temperature soared to 50 degrees, breaking the previous record of 48 set in 1931.
Extending the full length of a football field, a broiler plant in Hayfield will produce 112,500 birds a year. The facility will receive its first shipment of 25,000 day-old chicks this week.

For the first time in several years, Rochester High School and grade school declared a holiday for Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.
A low bid of $54,450 from the Rochester firm G. Schwartz & Co. was accepted for construction of the municipal swimming pool and bath house at Soldiers Memorial Field.
