Tools, vehicles taken in rash of thefts

A rash of thefts was reported at construction sites and businesses in Rochester over the weekend, according to police.

The thefts included $8,000 in tools and $3,700 in copper that were taken from a construction trailer at Washington Elementary School between Friday and Monday.

Also between Friday and Monday, $3,000 worth of power tools were reported stolen from a trailer at a bridge construction project at 20th Street Southeast and Marion Road.

Concrete saws valued at $1,500 and drills valued at $1,000 were stolen from Leitzen Concrete, 4019 U.S. 14 West, on Saturday or Sunday. Also in the same area, two service vehicles were stolen between Friday and Tuesday from  Nietz Electric, 4475 U.S. 14 West.

The thefts from Leitzen Concrete and Nietz Electric could be linked because they happened so close to each other, said Lt. Dan Muyres, but it isn't clear if all the thefts are linked because they were so scattered around the city.
