Two arrested in prostitution arrangement

Two Milwaukee residents were arrested Thursday afternoon after police say they arranged a prostitution deal.

The incident began with an advertisement on backpage.com, a free classified advertising site that also contains a section for adult services. Members of Rochester's street crimes unit monitor the site, watching for listings that involve the immediate area.

The 22-year-old man and 21-year-old woman had placed an ad for prostitution-related services, said Capt. John Sherwin. An undercover officer answered the ad and arranged a meeting.

While the officer was in the hotel room with the woman, other officers noticed the man outside, appearing to keep an eye on the room. When the man tried to leave, he was stopped, Sherwin said, and reportedly admitted he was the woman's pimp.

He remains in custody pending potential charges of felony promotion of prostitution; the woman was booked and released. She faces charges of engaging in prostitution and giving a false name to police.
