Two killed in Winona-area crash

WINONA — U.S. Highway 61 southeast of Winona was treacherous for driving this morning with at least three crashes, including one in which two people were killed and one was injured.

The State Patrol was called to a crash at 5:57 a.m. on U.S. 61 about 10 miles southeast of Winona near LaMoille.

The patrol said a car was being driven north on the highway when the driver lost control on a curve, crossed the median and hit an SUV head-on. Both drivers were killed and the passenger in one vehicle was taken to the hospital at Winona Health in Winona.

The road was icy at the time.

About 7 a.m., two more people were injured in separate crashes when they lost control of their vehicles about five miles southeast of Winona, and the vehicles rolled.
