United Way to honor community members with Maude Finch Award

United Way of Olmsted County's Women's Leadership Council will host the annual presentation of the Maude Finch Awards next month in Rochester.

The ceremony will be 5:30 p.m., Oct. 23 at the Canadian Honker Events at the Ramada Hotel, 1517 16th St. S.W.

The 2013 award honorees are Jan Vetter, Dison's Cleaners and Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity's Carpenter's Club. Each award winner has distinguished themselves in advancing the common good with their service, volunteerism, and leadership.

The award is named after Maude Finch the recording secretary of the Rochester Community Chest, who, when paid $20 for her clerical services in 1925, donated those proceeds back to the organization for the common good.

Jan Vetter will be honored for her significant contributions of community service, volunteerism, advocacy work and leadership. She actively contributes to our community as a leader and volunteer along with directing service efforts to Habitat for Humanity, Bundles of Love, Zumbro Lutheran Church, Kids in Need, Adults in Need and Adopt- A-Family.

The Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity Carpenter's Club is comprised of 12 retired volunteers who provide coaching, guidance and teaching of construction duties and skills to families who must contribute "sweat equity" to complete the building of their home.
