MARION TOWNSHIP — A 10-year-old girl suffered a minor injury after a vehicle struck a Dover-Eyota School District bus Monday afternoon.
The accident happened about 4:14 p.m. when a vehicle driven by a Rochester teenager pulled out of a driveway at a low rate of speed and hit the left front corner of the school bus, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.
The bus had three students on board at the time of the accident, according to Sgt. Scott Behrns. A 10-year-old girl bumped her head on a window as a result of the accident, he said, but did not require hospitalization.
The vehicle's driver, who said he did not see the school bus coming, was issued a citation for careless driving, Behrns said. The vehicle went into a ditch and suffered extensive damage after the collision, Behrns said, but its driver was not injured.
The accident caused minor damage to the bus, Behrns said. The children were taken home in a separate bus while investigators examined the bus that was damaged.
