Vietnam gets $1 million from US for missing troops

HANOI, Vietnam — The United States is providing $1 million to help authorities in Vietnam locate and identify the remains of Vietnamese soldiers missing in action during the war.

The U.S. embassy says in a Friday statement the money will assist Vietnamese officials searching for, identifying, and documenting its troops who went missing.

An estimated 300,000 Vietnamese soldiers are still unaccounted for since the end of the Vietnam War in 1975.

The agreement was reached Friday in Hanoi between Vietnam's labor ministry and USAID.
