Vigil planned for WSU student hit by car

A vigil is planned at 6 p.m. today for a Winona State University student who was struck while crossing the street Monday.

Britney Nelson. 19, was hit by a car at the corner of 6th Avenue and Harriet Street. Nelson was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.

She was upgraded to fair condition this morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman. She was also able to sit up in a chair while sipping water for the first time, according to an update on Caring Bridge.

The Alpha Tau chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon will be hosting a vigil for Nelson at 8 p.m. at the gazebo on the main campus.
