The Rochester Mayo High School Spartans set up some good plays but couldn't spike its way to victory against the No. 2-seeded (in Class AAA) Eagan Wildcats on the way to a 3-1 loss at the Xcel Energy Center.
Mayo won the second game 26-24 after Eagan won the first 25-12. Eagan then won the third and fourth games by identical 25-17 scores to clinch the best-of-five match in four.
Kate Holtan had 15 kills and Anna Winter 13 for Mayo. Holtan also had 19 digs and 29 assists. Lexie Lang had 43 assists.
The Spartans now will meet North Branch at 11 a.m. Friday in a consolation semifinal match.
