Wabasha reserve unit gets Army honor in 1962

1987 — 25 years ago

The Fillmore County Historical Society is moving from the courthouse in Preston to the former Fountain Elementary School. The new museum is scheduled to open in September.

The Maples Senior Housing, a six-plex and three four-plexes, will offer assisted-living accommodations for seniors. The apartments will have an open house.

1962 — 50 years ago

The 544th Ordnance Company, an Army Reserve unit from Wabasha, will receive the XIV U.S. Corps Commander’s Outstanding Unit Trophy at Fort Polk, La.

Bad weather has caused school closings and snow-clogged and icy roads. The Minnesota Highway Department called the icy roads "the worst in history." Many roads are impassable.

1937 — 75 years ago

At a father-daughter Girl Scout banquet celebrating the 25th anniversary of Girl Scouts, Dr. G.P. Sheridan urged the girls to follow four rules of life: Observe laws of health and safety, self-control, self-confidence and loyalty.

The Federal Bake Shop has large pumpkin pies for 21 cents each, whipped cream puffs six for 25 cents and date-pecan bread for 15 cents a loaf.
