Southeast Minnesota residents have much to say about the weather these past weeks. The climate in June of 1978 was similar when weeks of rain were followed by a torrential downpour, resulting in Rochester waking up to flash floods July 6. Dave Fritts (upper) was one of several citizens who brought out boats to assist those stranded. Here he navigated a waterway following 3rd Avenue Southeast near Bethel Lutheran Church. An extensive flood control project keeps the street dry today (below).
