Whitewater Park receives $300,000 for new headquarters in 1987

1987 — 25 years ago

Audrey and Chuck Taylor of Rochester were honored by the Thomas Group. The couple has spent five years cooking monthly and holiday meals at the Circle Center, a place where people with mental illness come together to socialize.

Whitewater Park received $300,000 to build a new flood shelter, headquarters and interpretive center.

Great Clips at the Crossroads Shopping Center donated $194 to the Rochester-based food bank to help celebrate the Twins World Series victory. Great Clips donated $1 to Channel One for every Kirby Puckett "buzz" haircut given.

1962 — 50 years ago

More than a ton of candy costing about $800 will be distributed by the Rochester Police Department to all 7,000 elementary school children on Halloween.

The new $750,000 Rochester Auto Park ramp on Second Street just a block east of South Broadway was dedicated today. The new ramp has 477 car slots. The cost to park is 15 cents an hour or $1.50 maximum for 24 hours.

1937 — 75 years ago

The A&P Food Store is celebrating its 78th anniversary with store specials that include two dozen eggs for 55 cents, round steak for 25 cents a pound and a three-pound bag of 8 0’clock Coffee for 51 cents.

The work largely carried out in the laboratories of Mayo Clinic by Dr. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi received the 1937 Nobel Prize in physiology and chemistry. His main achievement was the determination of the chemical nature of vitamin C, which he first produced in pure chemical form, from oranges and lemons.
