Winona man, 57, found dead, bloody in backyard

ROLLINGSTONE — A 57-year-old Winona man was found dead Sunday outside a home he was watching while the owners were away.

The man was found Sunday about 3:40 p.m. when the owners returned.

Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand says the man was lying face-down in the backyard in a pool of blood. A blood trail led nearly two blocks to a park where more blood and the man's glasses were found.

Brand says the cause of death isn't immediately known. He says it doesn't appear the man was shot. He also says there are indications the man died early Sunday.

The man's name hasn't been released.
