Winona man faces multiple sexual assault charges

WINONA — A Winona man out on bail for allegedly sexually assaulting a boy was arrested again Friday by the Winona County Sheriff's Office and now faces additional sexual assault charges involving a different victim.

Clark Wesley Stutesman, 57, was charged Sept. 12 in Winona County District Court with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct-penetration or contact with a child. On Sept. 13, he posted a non-cash bond of $100,000 to secure his release from jail until his next hearing.

Stutesman was taken into custody again on Friday after another person accused him of additional crimes. He was charged Monday in Winona County District Court with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to the first criminal complaint, Stutesman engaged in a prolonged sexual relationship with a boy younger than 13 between Jan. 1, 2006, and Dec. 31, 2008. During interrogation, Stutesman told authorities that he suffered a nervous breakdown years ago. He was on prescription medication and often drinking heavily, a combination that caused him to "not remember what happened," according to the complaint.

The latest charges allege that Stutesman performed dozens of sex acts on a boy between 2002 and 2004 in Winona. The victim told authorities that he threatened to expose Stutesman while the incidents were ongoing, to which he allegedly responded: "Go ahead. Nobody will believe you."

The two cases carry a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $40,000 fine. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 10.
