Woman charged with drug possession after meth found in squad car

Authorities have charged a woman suspected of leaving a bag of methamphetamine in a Rochester police squad car.

Sarah Jean Young, 27, no permanent address, made her first appearance Wednesday in Olmsted County District Court. She was charged with second-degree drug possession — 6 grams or more, a felony.

Young was staying at a motel in south Rochester on Monday night when the staff there called police, saying they suspected illegal activity was occurring at the room, according to the report.

When officers arrived, they learned Young had a warrant for her arrest in Goodhue County. She was arrested and taken to the detention center.

After Young left the vehicle, law enforcement found a plastic bag containing about 25 grams of a substance later identified as meth, the report says.
