Workers install beams for 41st St. bridge in 1986

1986 — 25 years ago

Workers began putting 90-foot steel beams into place at the 41st Street bridge over U.S. 52 North. The beams will form the base of the bridge deck. When the bridge is finished in late summer, it will connect 41st Street with the IBM plant.

Arson is suspected in a fire that caused extensive damage to the Pem Theater in Wabasha.

1961 — 50 years ago

The new Mayo Clinic building to house biometry medical records and X-ray film will be named the Harwick Building. The name honors H.J. Harwick of the clinic’s emeritus staff. Harwick joined the clinic in 1908 to take charge of the non-medical part of the clinic. He served the clinic for 44 years.

1936 — 75 years ago

Charles Benrud, 14 has been named co-valedictorian at Zumbrota High School this year. He was tied with an average of 96.1 with Dorothy Matchan. Jeanne Larson won salutatorian honors. Young Charles is believed to be the youngest ever to represent the high school.

The Spring Valley Co-operative Creamery Association served 900 lunches at its annual meeting.
