Workshop set for septic system owners

Mower County Environmental Services will offer a class to teach proper operation and maintenance of on-site wastewater or septic systems.

The class will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ruby Rupner Auditorium at the J.C. Hormel Nature Center, and will last about 90 minutes. Refreshments will be provided.

Proper septic system operation and maintenance can save homeowners money while protecting the environment. Bill Buckley, with Mower County Environmental Services, will conduct the class.

Information will include how proper maintenance of a septic system can effectively treat water and last for 20 more years. Improper maintenance can lead to system failure and the need for repairs.

Buckley will also discuss how to avoid freezing problems, typical septic system operation and the rationale for treating human wastewater.
