PINE ISLAND — Some 104 children participated in the 17th annual elementary cross country run held Sept. 25 in Pine Island.

The race is a chance for kids to have fun in a competitive setting and experience joy in movement. It is also a chance for the seventh- through 12th-grade cross country runners to be role models for the elementary runners.

Carolyn Kittleson sang the Star Spangled Banner, and Alex Keigley acted as the Panther mascot.
