Alfreida Bishop — St. Charles

Alfreida Lylian (Kuehl) Bishop, 97, of St. Charles, died Sunday, Dec. 13, at St. Isidore Health Center in Plainview.

Alfreida was born March 17, 1918, in Black Creek, Wis., to Frank and Jennie (Huff) Kuehl. She attended schools in Black Creek and Tomah in Wisconsin, graduating from high school in Flandreau, S.D. Alfreida and Lester Bishop were married Sept. 11, 1937, in Cresco, Iowa. They lived in Rochester; Milwaukee, Wis.; and St. Charles before retiring to Loretta, Wis. In 2001, they returned to St. Charles. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1987. Alfreida was a homemaker, but worked part-time at Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee; Whitewater State Park; Olmsted Medical Group; and United Way. She was a member of St. Charles United Methodist Church. She loved reading, fishing, and music of the big band era. Alfreida was an avid Packers fan and was proud of her Oneida Nation heritage. Her greatest love was for her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, David (Lois) Bishop of St. Charles; a daughter, Carole Mahoney of Rochester; a daughter-in-in-law, Sharon Bishop of Rochester; six grandchildren, Roger Bishop, Karin Duncan, Kathy Annis, Vance Mahoney, Lesley Miller and Susie Sullivan; 16 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Roy Kuehl of Milwaukee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; a son, James; one brother, Harvey; two sisters, Eva and Margaret; and a grandson, Jeff.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Heather E. Klason officiating. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles, and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
