Alva M. Shea — Lake City

The funeral service for Alva M. Shea will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, in Lake City, with Father Joseph P. Pete officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Lake City.

Mrs. Shea, 98, of Edina, and formerly of Lake City, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at Edina Care Center in Edina.

Alva Marie Carlson was born April 6, 1917, in Sweden, to Edwin and Ella (Swenson) Carlson. In her younger years, she came to America, and graduated from high school in 1936. On Nov. 5, 1943, she married Francis John Shea in Detroit, Mich.; he died Aug. 5, 1998.

They made their home in Detroit until May 1944, when the moved to Rochester; later in 1944, they moved to Ionia, Mich. There Alva was employed by the Ionia State Hospital for 30 years. In 1997, the Sheas moved to Ludington, Mich., and in March 1988, they moved to Lake City. Six years ago, Alva moved to the Edina Care Center in Edina to be closer to her sisters. Alva was a former member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City.

Alva is survived by her two sisters, Sandra Carlson and Sonja Anderson, both of Edina; and two grandchildren, Susan Shea and Scott Shea.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son, Jon Joseph Shea.

Friends and family may visit from 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel until the time of service.
