Alvin C. 'Jimmy' Gaustad — Houston
Alvin C. "Jimmy" Gaustad, 95, of Houston, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at Gunderson Health in La Crosse, Wis.
Alvin Clarence Gaustad was born July 5, 1919, to John and Edna (Smith) Gaustad on the family farm in rural Houston, Yucatan Township. He attended Brick School, District 21 in lower Yucatan. He served in the Army. Jimmy married Bethany E. Gorder on Feb. 28, 1945. The couple lived and farmed from 1945 to 1988 when they moved off the farm. Jimmy continued to work on the farm until 2010.
Jimmy was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, Houston American Legion Post 423, Yucatan Town Board and served as past supervisor. He was also a member of the Houston Sportsman Club for many years. Jimmy enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, especially Euchre, and mowing hay and alfalfa.
Jimmy is survived by his son, Larry (Debra) Gaustad, Houston, and his daughter, Laurie (Royce) DeCook, Rochester; a grandson, Adam Gaustad, Houston; and several step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, Bethany, a son, Richard, three sisters, Verna Odegaarden, Clarice Storlie and Myrtle Steele, and two brothers, Lester and Bennie Gaustad.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, with the Rev. Leonard Liptack officiating.
A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Houston, and one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery, Houston, with military honors.
