Arline A. Nodland — Pine Island
Arline A. Nodland, 97, of Pine Island, died Friday, June 26, 2015, at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island, with Pastor Kip Groettum and Pastor Audrey Lukasak co-officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arline Anna Bolles was born Jan. 16, 1918, in New London, to Ernest F. and Nellie S. (nee Dilley) Bolles. She spent her early years in New London and at the age of 12 moved to Zumbrota. On Sept. 3, 1932, she married Ardith B. Nodland in Cresco, Iowa. They made their home in Zumbrota until 1949 when they moved to Pine Island. In 1954, they moved to Oronoco and lived there until moving back to Pine Island in 1989. After Ardith's death, Arline moved back to Zumbrota in 1998. Arline worked at Dayton's and the Rochester State Hospital. In 1960, Ardith and Arline started the Neptune Bar in Zumbro Falls, which they operated until 1962. They also owned and operated Art and Arline's in both Oronoco and Zumbrota.
Arline was a lifetime member of the Stary-Yerka VFW Post 5727 Auxiliary, a member of the Charles Cowden American Legion Post 184 Auxiliary and Saint Paul Lutheran Church. Arline enjoyed fishing, cooking and entertaining.
Arline is survived by her son, Arlend "Sam" (Phyllis) Nodland of Smith Mountain Lake, Va.; daughter, Darlene Poole of Isle, formerly of Gibbon; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kathy) Nodland of Lone Tree, Colo., Craig (Meredith) Nodland of Charlotte, N.C., Sean Nodland of Washington, D.C., Kim (James) Payne of Apple Valley and Kirstin Poole of Burnsville; great-grandchildren, Trevor and Alyssa Nodland, Brady and Cooper Nodland, Stephanie and Christopher Payne, Jesse, Joseph and Jay Winger; great-great-grandchildren, Whitney Payne and Olivia and Sophia Winger; sisters-in-law, Doris Bolles of New Hope and Jenny Bolles of Coon Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Arline was preceded in death by her husband, Ardith; granddaughter, Karen Wedde; son-in-law, Lyman "Joe" Poole; and five brothers, Eugene, Ernest, Emerald "Jim", Arnold and Marvin Bolles.
Memorials are suggested to Saint Paul Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.
