Arthur Helleck - Blooming Prairie

BLOOMING PRAIRIE — Arthur Helleck, 83 of Blooming Prairie, died Monday morning, May 3, 2010, at Austin Medical Center.

He was born April 28, 1927, to Theodore and Jane (Noble) Helleck in Austin. Arthur grew up on a farm and after graduating from Blooming Prairie High School in 1945 he went into the Army. After serving his country for two years, he was honorably discharged and went to work for the Oliver plant in Charles City, Iowa, in 1947. He married Arlene Holm on September 26, 1950, at Community Lutheran Church in Geneva. Later he became a Hormel Foods employee for 34 years.

He was a SEMCAC volunteer for 19 years. His volunteer work also included the First Lutheran Cemetery Board, American Legion and VFW, and First Lutheran Church where he worked at lutefisk dinners. Arthur also liked gardening and sports.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Blooming Prairie; a daughter, Joan (Roger) Krejci of Lakeville; two grandchildren, Angela (Matthew) Jacobson and Brian (Ashlie) Krejci; three great grandchildren, Conner, Kiley and Braden; and two brothers, Roscoe (Rita) Helleck of Anchorage, Alaska, and Harold (Susan) Helleck of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gene in 1967; and sisters, Thelma Henricks and Josephine Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, with Pastors Heidi Heimgartner and Charles Leonard officiating. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home, and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at First Lutheran Cemetery, Blooming Prairie.
