Audrey Mae Skauge — Spring Grove

Audrey Mae Skauge, 71, of Spring Grove, passed away Monday, May 4, 2015, at Green Lea Manor in Mabel.

She was born to Lyle and Alma (Nelson) Solberg on Sept. 5, 1943, in Spring Grove. Audrey was a Spring Grove High School graduate; after graduation, she joined her two older sisters, Nina and Lois, in Rochester. She worked as a secretary for American Premier Insurance Company and later IBM. On Sept. 3, 1966, she married Roger Skauge at a double ring ceremony with her sister, Dianne and Dennis Vesterse, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. The couple lived in Winona for the first three years, and then in 1973, they bought a farm in Rooster Valley, rural Black Hammer, and lived there until 2002, when they moved to Spring Grove. Roger and Audrey had two sons, David and Dale.

Audrey was a very strong church member at Faith Lutheran Church in Black Hammer. Audrey was an excellent caregiver, taking care of her Aunt Clara and Uncle Mentor Wolstad of Spring Grove. She was always giving people rides to doctors and different places where they needed to be. She also helped her parents take care of her sister, Karen.

Audrey was a very kind, considerate sister, her good nature and compassion for others will be truly missed. She was a great farmer's wife.

She is survived by her husband, Roger of 48 years of Spring Grove, her boys, David (Christy) Skauge of Spring Grove, Dale of Rochester, three grandchildren, Lawrence and Rhiannon Skauge and Miranda Peterson. Her sisters, Lois Ann Steele of Mabel, Nina Lee (Rod) of Rochester and Dianne (Dennis) Vesterse of Spring Grove, and one brother, Tom (Michelle) Solberg of Spring Grove, also many nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Alma, her sister, Karen Renee, and her niece, Kelly (Holland) Swee.

Memorial services will be held Monday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Black Hammer. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.
