Bernadine Walch -- St. Charles

Bernadine "Bernie" Walch, 90, of St. Charles, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, at Winona Health Manor in Winona.

She was born March 26, 1924, in Arcadia, to Bernard and Helena (Rohn) Boberg and attended St. Aloysius Catholic School. In 1945, Bernie started working in Winona where she lived with her aunt and uncle. She met Michael Walch and they were married Sept. 1, 1952, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Winona. She and Mike farmed on Oak Ridge until moving to Altura in 1971. Mike preceded her in death on March 16, 2002. She lived in Altura until moving to St. Charles Assisted Living in 2013.

Bernie is survived by her two daughters, Theresa deVries of Newmarket, Ont., Canada and Marilyn (Gary) Sanders of Utica; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Holly deVries, Scott (Jill) Sanders, Sarah (Brad) Bowser and Shawn Sanders; three great-grandchildren, Peyton, Brayden and Kennedy Sanders; two brothers, Alden Boberg of Arcadia and Merlin Boberg of Maple Lake; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Boberg of Arcadia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mike, a daughter, Mary Ann, a son-in-law, Clayton, brothers, Norman and Ralph, and a sister, Marjorie .

Bernie was strong in her Catholic faith as a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Altura. She enjoyed spending time and playing cards and games with her family, friends and neighbors.

A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Altura with the Rev. Glenn Frerichs officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery at Oak Ridge. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles. They may also call one hour before services at the church on Monday.
