Betty L. Wohlfiel — Kasson
Betty Lavaine Wohlfiel, 83, of Kasson, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.
She was born Aug. 15, 1933, to Edwin and Helma Ness in rural Dodge County. On Feb. 27, 1952, she was united in marriage to Melvin L. Kramer. They had two daughters, Bonnie and Diane. Melvin was killed in a car accident in 1960. On July 16, 1966, Betty was joined in marriage to Kenneth D. Wohlfiel at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kasson. They had one son, Kevin.
Betty was very involved in the activities at St. John's Lutheran Church including as a member of Martha Bible Study, WELCA Activities, Quilters, Alter Guild and volunteering in the church office. She worked many years in the Kasson-Mantorville Schools from which she retired. She was a very compassionate, giving person who was always there with hot dishes and baking when people were in need of encouragement. She made many quilts and sewing projects for her children, loved ones and puppies. She loved to sit outside and visit with the neighbors or strike up a conversation with anyone who stopped by long enough for a chat.
Betty is survived by her children, Bonnie (Mark) Brown, of Dodge Center, Diane (Marc) Pilcher, of Faribault, and Kevin (Sherri) Wohlfiel, of Kasson; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by two brothers, Ernest (Margaret) Ness, Franklin (Sandy) Ness; and two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Ness and Colleen Ness, all of Kasson; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; three brothers, Stanley, Manford and Davis Ness; and one sister, Doris Iverson. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave. NW, Kasson, and one hour before the funeral service. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 7, also at St. John's. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church, of Kasson, or American Cancer Society.
