Betty Lou Cook — Rochester

Mrs. Betty Lou Cook, 87, of Rochester (originally from Mason City, Iowa), died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Saint Marys Hospital.

Betty was born May 21, 1926, to Lloyd and Cecil Bare (Schear) in Geneva, Iowa. She married Reed Calvin Cook at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, on Sept. 4, 1946. Betty was a teacher at Mother Goose Nursery School for many years in Mason City.

She was active in the community and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Betty enjoyed her gardens, her neighborhood walks, and especially loved spending time with her family and close friends.

Survivors include her sister, Dora Mahn (Dale), of Mason City, Iowa; her three daughters, Ellen Lichty, of Rochester, Ann Montgomery (Bob), of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Mary Turner (Donn), of Fort Collins, Colo.; grandchildren include, Brent Lichty and Daniel Lichty, of Rochester, Laura Montgomery, of Birmingham, Ala., and Kyle Turner, of New York, N.Y., Leah Turner, of Denver, Colo., and Kara Turner, of Boulder, Colo. Reed Calvin Lichty is her first great-grandchild.

Her husband, Reed Cook, and her sister, Maxine Kittleson, preceded her in death.

Mahn Family Funeral Home in Rochester, is in charge of arrangements.

The family plans a celebration of her life in Mason City, Iowa, in November.
